As from tomorrow (4th November) women in Ireland & the UK will be working until the new year, for free. It’s simple enough to understand. Whilst the average working male has earned his weekly wage or monthly salary, his female counterpart has earned around 13.5%-17% less, depending on how you juggle the figures.
But juggle them all you will, she’s working from around November 4th until December 31st for free. No wonder there’s been an increase in the number of working women since 1973, they’re just cheaper. And this doesn’t even begin to address the problems of equal pay for work of equal value. Why does a male caretaker earn more than a female care assistant? Why are most caretakers men and care assistants women? Is it because he has greater responsibility; are buildings more important than children?
